The sister of brain tumour campaigner Anna Swabey fron Newton Aycliffe, has opened up about her legacy, and is planning to remember her in a very special way.

It’s almost a year since Anna passed away, aged 25, from a brain tumour, the day before she was due to get married.

To mark the first anniversary on the 16th of September, her sister Victoria has organised a walk in Aycliffe.

She tells us it was her way of facing a tough date;

“We’re very aware of the date that’s coming up, and we didn’t want for that day to pass by in any melancholy way – we wanted to do something that was going to be fun.

“It’s a year that’s passed by in a bit of a blur, to be honest, you know, as a family we’ve all kind of pulled together and continued with Anna’s fundraising legacy.

“The total for the fundraising is now up to £117 000.

“For us it’s just something that means that we can make sense of why it happened and obviously make sure that we’re doing our little bit to hopefully prevent other people from being in that situation in the future.

“I think if I’m completely honest it’s kept us all going. It’s given us all something very positive to focus on and helps us to kind of make sense of something that is quite senseless.”

Victoria has organised the walk around the Great Aycliffe Way to remember Anna, and to reach out to the hundreds of people Anna touched with her story through social media and her Blog.

She’s asking that anyone who wants to join in can do – there’s no sign up, but Victoria’s asking anyone interested to let them know through the Facebook page.

You can also find out how to donate to the Brain Tumour Research Campaign, through their Justgiving page via Anna’s blog, or by bringing cash on the day.
