Man named as arrests are made in Guisborough murder investigation

Police can now name a man who sadly died following an alleged incident in Guisborough on Monday 8th August as 62-year-old Alan Garbutt, from the East Cleveland area.

Alan suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead after officers were called to Helmsley House in Guisborough around 2:20am on Monday morning.

Alan’s family today paid tribute to him, saying:

Our beloved dad, grandad and brother will be missed dearly but will never be forgotten.”

The family have asked for privacy whilst they grieve in peace.

Further arrests have now been made in connection with the investigation into Alan’s death.

A 16-year-old boy, two men aged 28, a 43-year-old man and a 47-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of murder and all remain in police custody at this time.

A 45-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender have been released under investigation whilst enquiries continue.

A 23-year-old woman also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender remains in police custody at this time.

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET) would continue to appeal to anyone who may have information or anyone who may have seen or heard anything in the area around the time of the incident to contact them on 101, quoting incident number 139388.
