A man is starting four-and-a-half years in prison for stabbing a man and attacking a police officer in Middlesbrough.

Joshua Yates kicked and stamped on his 55-year-old victim during a row in the Central Mews area early on the 24th August 2024.

The 28-year-old - who has no fixed address - has also been handed an additional two years on licence and a 15-year long restraining order.

Cleveland Police Investigating officer, Detective Constable Itsharm Ramzan, said:

“Violence in any form will not be tolerated, and any offenders who carry out acts of violence such as this will be dealt with robustly.

“I am pleased with the sentence that has been handed to Yates, and hope that this now brings some comfort to the victims in this case.”
