Man dies after collapsing at Middlesbrough Police Station

Three men remain in police custody following the death of 50 year old Laurence French in Middlesbrough.

He died after collapsing in Middlesbrough Police Station while reporting an alleged burglary.

Cleveland Police have now extended the detention of the three men who were arrested on suspicion of murder and aggravated burglary.

Laurence French entered the police office at 9:30pm on Wednesday 25th May.

While speaking to staff Mr French became seriously unwell and collapsed on the floor.

Despite the efforts of staff, police officers and ambulance staff, he was pronounced dead a short time later at James Cook University Hospital.

A post-mortem examination was carried out yesterday, although these results are not being released by police for operational reasons.

Three males, aged 39, 40 and 42 were arrested on suspicion of murder and aggravated burglary.

This morning a fourth man aged 66 who was arrested on suspicion of handling solten goods has been released on bail.
