Mam of murdered teen says Teesside street violence must be tackled
Theresa Cave's son Chris was stabbed to death when he was only 17 years old.
The mam of a murdered Redcar teenager says we should be doing more to tackle the problem of street violence in Teesside.
Theresa Cave's son Chris was only 17 when he was stabbed to death in Redcar in 2003.
She's set up The Chris Cave Foundation, which teaches children across the UK to avoid knife crime.
She also supports families who've been affected by murder or manslaughter.
The Redcar mam says she's been contacted by a number of parents on Facebook who say they're too terrified to let their kids out of the house.
It's after a number of attacks around the Teesside area, one resulting in the death of 22-year-old Lee Pettite from Eston.
She said: "I always said it would never happen to one of mine, and it did.
"He was a good lad, just wrong place, wrong time and we're suffering now for the rest of our lives.
"Things quiten down, the kids grow up and disperse from the street corners.
"Now it's their brothers and sisters are growing up and they're ending up the same way.
"It's becoming a way of life and it's something that can be put right so easily.
"If people start believing in these young people."
Theresa wants to see the reopening of youth clubs and community centres to keep young people off the street.
