Major damage to shop after fire in Darlington

A road in Darlington has partially reopened after a fire overnight in County Durham.

We understand a shop in the town centre has suffered major damage following the incident on Gladstone Street.

Officers reported: "Gladstone Street, in Darlington, has been closed following a fire.

"The road has been closed in both directions at the junction of Thornton Street while crews from County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service work at the scene.

"Please avoid the area and find an alternative route."
