Two teenage girls who murdered a Hartlepool woman called police for a lift home after the 'sustained and brutal' attack.

The murderers, aged just 13 and 14 at the time, attacked 39-year-old Angela Wrightson at her home on Stephen Street in December 2014.

A television set, a shovel and a stick with nails in were all used by the girls to beat Wrightson, who was a well-known alcoholic in the area.

The victim sustained over 100 injuries, including 80 to her face and weighed only 6.5 stones at the time of her death.

The court was told shards of glass and small pieces of gravel or grit were strewn over and around Miss Wrightson's genitals and ash from burnt paper had been put into her ear.

The attack took place over a period of five hours, during which the girls left and then returned to the property.

Miss Wrighton's landlord found her the following morning and the emergency servcies were alerted.

The two girls were found guilty at Leeds Crown Court yesterday of the alcoholic's murder.

They'll be sentenced on Thursday.
