Like And Share For New Kidney

A Redcar mam who received a new kidney after being contacted on Facebook says the site should be used to help more transplant patients.

Stacey Hewitt made a plea for a new organ on the social media site and was contacted by Louise Drewery from Scunthorpe.

Mam-of-two Louise says she was inspired to help Stacey after hearing she had a young son, and wanted to make a difference.

The pair had the transplant at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle in February and both are now doing well.

They’ve now struck up a friendship and speak to each other every day.

26-year-old Stacey was suffering from kidney failure when her doctor suggested a transplant to prevent any further problems.

She told TFM she didn’t believe the offer straight away.

“I didn’t want to get my hopes up because you hear people put it on and then they don’t do anything about it.

When I had my regular bloods done, they did say someone has come forward.

I was pretty shocked that she actually did.

She’s changed my life a lot, I don’t get out of breath any more, I’m always up and ready.

I get to play with my son again, I can’t thank her enough for what she’s done for me.”

She’s now urging people to use the social media site to try and find a donor.
