Levelling Up Fund announcement for Teesside
Six projects in our region - are to receive grants from round two of the flagship Levelling Up Fund.
The government says that investment in historically overlooked areas will create jobs and grow the economy.
Communities across our region are to receive over £100M pounds to help boost projects.
That includes £16M for a new film production village in Hartlepool, providing new jobs and opportunities in the creative industries.
A £20M investment will be made in the Newham Grange highway scheme, unlocking 800 homes in Middlesbrough.
As well as new pedestrian and cycle tracks to connect Guisborough's town centre to Teesworks and the North York Moors National Park.
Cllr Mary Lanigan, Leader of Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, said: “We are thrilled that our Levelling Up bid submitted jointly with Middlesbrough Council will receive millions of pounds worth of investment.
“This funding will improve the town centre providing an exciting opportunity for us to grow and enhance Guisborough, and will better connect our residents to employment, training and education, helping us seize the opportunity presented by the Teesworks development site. The money will also enhance tourism and improve accessibility to North York Moors National Park for our residents.
“Pulling together such a strong bid was a real team effort and I’d like to thank all who helped contribute in our aim to enhance prosperity for the people of our borough.
“Unfortunately, we cannot hide our disappointment that our Eston bid appears to have been unsuccessful. Whilst this is obviously extremely disappointing news, we will look to see if we can strengthen and resubmit the bid to help us achieve our aims for the area.”
