Teesside job boost of 100 jobs with HS2 contract
A brand new factory is part of a 'landmark' contract

Over 100 jobs will be coming to Teesside, as a disused Hartlepool rig yard will become a factory for a 'landmark' HS2 contract.
The brand new factory will deliver 36,000 concrete segments for HS2’s tunnels in London.
It will manufacture the concrete segments for the stretch of HS2 under London, from the Old Oak Common station to Green Parkway running underneath Northolt.
In addition to the 100 onsite jobs, new jobs could also be created and sustained by the additional supply chain contracts that will be available to support the manufacture and supply of the tunnel segments.
HS2 Minister, Andrew Stephenson MP said: “This landmark contract to build a new factory in Hartlepool to manufacture items for HS2 shows building back better in action, giving new life to a vacant site and bringing over 100 new skilled jobs to the area.
“Companies across the North East are already benefiting from being part of HS2’s vast supply chain, with 400,000 supply chain contract opportunities expected on Phase One alone.”
The factory is in a prime location, with convenient links to sea and rail, making it a promising site to be used in future domestic and international projects.
Construction of the state-of-the-art factory will begin in the New Year, and is set to open as soon as December 2022.
After the land has been developed to suit storage requirements for the contract, an automated segment carousel and reinforcement hall will be introduced where robots will be brought in to produce high quality reinforcement cages for each segment.
The facility is being built by STRABAG, Austria's largest construction firm, who will join an ever-growing list of businesses with manufacturing facilities at Hartlepool Dock, which is owned and operated by PD Ports

This contract is the second of two for precast concrete tunnel segments for HS2’s London tunnels.
Pacadar UK will be delivering 58,000 segments for the first London tunnel being constructed between West Ruislip and Green Park Way, in Ealing.
