Help Tackle Child Sexual Exploitation

Cleveland Police are working with Barnardo’s to tackle Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) to encourage young people to stay safe online and prevent them from becoming a victim.

Barnardo's are offering free training across businesses on Teesside, with the aim of protecting children and young people from Child Sexual Exploitation.

Detective Sergeant Daryll Tomlinson is encouraging local businesses to take up this free opportunity, he said:

“Those working in the night-time economy or within community groups will be given training on how to spot signs of Child Sexual Exploitation and will be given advice on how it should be reported.

We have a dedicated team of officers to provide information and advice to young people, but this additional support from the local community is invaluable in helping to prevent incidents of exploitation.”

Alan Routledge, NightWatch Project Coordinator from Barnardo’s said:

“Child Sexual Exploitation is taking place in all our communities. However, it is an issue that we can all help to tackle. The night time economy boasts a vast, vibrant and diverse workforce. It is made up of those employed as hoteliers, bar staff, door supervisors, and take-away staff, to shop assistants and petrol station attendants and many more people employed in occupations, who may – if given the right information - be effective in spotting exploitation and saving a child from such abuse.”
