Hartlepool Schools Asked About Planned Housing For Ex-Addicts
Hartlepool MP Iain Wright has written to schools near proposed flats which could house former drug addicts and criminals
Three Hartlepool schools are being asked for their views on proposed social housing which could home former drug addicts and ex-criminals.
The town's MP, Iain Wright, has written to the schools near the former Anderson's Bakery on Windermere Road in the town.
More than 1000 people have signed a petition against the plans.
Mr Wright says people need to think about potential child safety risks of the housing.
He added that whilst services like this are important, this site is the wrong place for this sort of service as there isn't enough support in the area to provide the help residents might need.
In a statement the charity behind the scheme said: "two senior managers previously met with residents, councillors and local authority officers at a meeting...where we explained in some detail the plans for the property.
"We continue to welcome dialogue with both the council and local residents and will continue to work with Hartlepool Borough Councill to ensure that this project has a satisfactory outcome for all."* *
