We've Gone Behind Bars...

People in Northallerton will have a chance to glimpse behind the prison gates - without receiving a criminal record!

The town's prison closed in 2013, but now Hambleton District Council have decided to open its doors to the public.

The prison was built in .... but was closed 18 months ago with the loss of .....jobs.

Plans for a new leisure development to replace the prison are currently at the consultation stage with the council, although it's believe plans could including housing, shops and possibly a hotel.

Council leader Mark Robson said:

"There's a lot of curiosity and it is interesting and it is important that members of the public do get the chance to see what's on the other side of the wall.

Whatever we end up with here has to complement the high street of Northallerton and the district as a whole."

Robson says more jobs will be created by the new development, as well as relocation of the police headquarters over the road, than those lost when the site closed.
