Eston murder: Victim named as 22-year-old Lee Pettite

A 22-year-old man is currently in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of murder.

Cleveland Police have confirmed that yesterday's attack in Eston is now being treated as a murder investigation.

Officers believe the victim is 22-year-old Lee Pettite from Bankfields, although formal identification is yet to take place.

It's believed he received his injuries near to Woodcock Close in Eston and staggered towards Oakley Walk where he was found.

Lee's family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody for questioning.

A full post-mortem will take place to discover the 22-year-old's injuries and cause of death.

Police officers believe the answer to solving this murder lies within the Normanby and Eston community and they're urging for anyone with any information to come forward.

Detective Chief Superindendent Peter McPhillips said: "We do think this was an isolated attack.

"We do believe that Lee Pettite was the target of the attack.

"It's unsual and very rare that we get this type of incident.

"We'd ask anyone with any information about Lee's death to get in touch with us."
