An elderly couple aged in their eighties have been left “traumatised” following a burglary at their home, police say.

An 83-year-old woman was at the address with her 85-year-old husband when a man forced his way into the address at around 12.30pm on Wednesday 11th March on Levendale Close in Yarm.

The woman was knocked to the ground as the man entered the house and he made off with a small amount of cash in the direction of Leven Road. She suffered minor injuries which required medical treatment.

The suspect is described as a white male, aged 40 to 50 years old, slim build, tall and wearing dark clothing and a flat cap.

Detective Sergeant Kenny Clark from Stockton Volume Crime Team, said:

“This man has had the audacity to force his way into the home of an elderly couple in broad daylight. He has left an 83-year-old woman with bruising and both victims have been left traumatised and in shock about what has happened.

This incident took place in the middle of the day. Someone must have seen this man in the area around the time of the burglary or someone must know who he is."

Anyone with information is asked to contact DS Kenny Clark on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
