A Durham landlord says more help is needed for the region's most vulnerable tenants.

Durham City Homes have paired up with local charity Waddingston Street Centre to host drop-in sessions for their tenants.

They'll provide support for people with mental health issues, including access to housing and educational resources.

Tenants will also have the chance to talk about repairs, rents and antisocial behaviour at their properties.

Helen Thompson, Customer Service and Support Manager from Durham City Homes, said: “We understand that some customers prefer to talk through their housing queries in person, but may find it difficult to come to our offices.

“From Tuesday, 26 March between 10.30am and 12pm, and at the end of each month thereafter, we will be on hand to offer advice and support with residents’ housing queries from the charity’s city centre location.”

Steve Wakefield, Waddington Street Centre Manager, said: “At Waddington Street Centre we strive to ensure that people’s lives are as good as they possibly can be.

“We know that having poor housing conditions can badly affect a person’s mental health and by establishing a partnership with Durham City Homes, we have the opportunity to work closely with a local housing provider.

“I am sure that the partnership will be to the mutual benefit of the customers and clients of both organisations.”
