Police appeal after a nine-year-old is bitten by a dog in Middlesbrough

Officers are appealing to trace witnesses and footage

The incident happened on Burwell Road at around 12 pm on Wednesday when a dog, which is described as tanned or light brown, approached the girl and bit her a number of times on the legs.

She was left with injuries which required hospital treatment but were not life threatening and was treated at James Cook University Hospital. She's since been released.

The breed of the dog cannot be confirmed at this time. There was no owner present and the dog was not wearing a collar or lead.

Officers are continuing with their enquiries to locate the dog and its owner, and have been carrying out a number of enquiries including house to house and CCTV in the local area.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident, have CCTV or dash cam footage in the area of the incident or of the incident itself is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101 quoting incident number 252544.
