Deadline to register to Vote in Teesside's local elections is looming
Campaigners say a big push is needed to make sure everyone eligible is able to vote on May 6th
Campaigners say a major effort's needed to make sure millions of people aren't left off the electoral register.
The deadline to register to vote in elections in May is a week on Monday - with figures suggesting 17-percent of people eligible aren't signed up.
There are several elections taking place here on May the 6th - including Hartlepool's by election, Cleveland Police's Police and Crime Commissioner and the Tees Valley Mayor elections.
You can register to vote via the Government website, provided you fit the criteria;
- Aged 16 or over (or 14 or over in Scotland and Wales)
- A British citizen
- An Irish or EU citizen living in the UK
- A Commonwealth citizen who has permission to enter or stay in the UK, or who does not need permission
- A citizen of another country living in Scotland or Wales who has permission to enter or stay in the UK, or who does not need permission
You must register by 11:59pm on the 19th of April to be able to vote in the following elections on the 6th of May.
