Darlington 10K road race returns to town
Entries are now open as the popular SG Petch Darlington 10k road race returns to town.
More than two thousand runners will set off to complete two laps of the town centre course in what has become a popular event for runners of all levels aged 15 and over. Younger runners are catered for in a Junior 3km run which takes place at 9.45am giving keen athletes aged 8 – 14 the chance to take part in a chip timed race and receive a t-shirt.
The whole family can get involved in the first race of the day when the Family Fun Run sets off at 9am. Souvenir medals are up for grabs and the event will give parents the chance to run with their family and warm up for the big race.
Darlington Borough Council works with the Rotary Club of Darlington to organise the event which supports the club’s two nominated charities Bright Red and County Durham Community Foundation.
The 10k was cancelled last year due to the pandemic, this year’s event will go ahead, subject to national guidance at the time. Covid measures have been taken to help ensure the safety of all those taking part.
Kevin Nicholson, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for health and housing, said: “The 10k has been a regular event for more than 25 years and is a firm favourite on the running calendar for many local and regional runners. The events team has worked hard to ensure that this year’s race can go ahead, all being well, and they have put measures in place to make it as safe as possible for the runners.
“Many thanks to our main sponsor, SG Petch, and to other local organisations who are helping to support this event.”
