Darlington 10k has new category for over 80s
Inspired by 81-year-old Alan Barnes, who's taken part in almost every race.
Organisers of Darlington 10K are encouraging everyone to give running a go, no matter how old you are.
For the first time, the race will have an over 80s category, inspired by local runner Ian Barnes.
He's tackled almost every race since they began 29 years ago.
He said: "You try and delay the aging process, but it's a fact, you can't keep going at the level you were doing 30 or 40 years ago.
"If I finish in the middle of the field nowadays I'm pleased enough with that.
"I've got to say there aren't many 80 year olds running around nowadays.
"I thought when I got to 70 that was it, but I kept on going.
"Don't stop, you just seize up if you stop."
Registration for this years event opens today and around 2000 runners are expected to sign up.
Darlington Rotary Club have been involved in the race for 25 years this year.
Alan Charlton is the organiser for the event, he said: "There's no doubt that Darlington 10K has improved in stature with the running community over the years.
"It's now a gold standard race.
"They know they're going to have a good day and it's well organised."
