County Durham tourism and economy boost from Easter weekend
People are being encouraged to visit the region and visit its attractions
We are hearing how bank holiday weekends are helping to boost the local economy across County Durham.
People are being encouraged to visit the region and visit attractions in the future.
Visiting England held a survey which showed around 11 million Brits planned an overnight holiday this Easter, which is thought to bring in an estimated £3.2 billion boost the economy across Britain.
Michelle Gorman, Managing Director of Visit County Durham, said: "The Easter long bank holiday weekend signifies really the start of the tourism season for our businesses, and County Durham is just an amazing place. We have so much on offer; brilliant museums, art galleries and visitor attractions.
"We've got the steam gala at Beamish Museum, we have World Heritage celebrations taking place up in Durham City so there'll be all sorts of things going on.
"If we're encouraging visitors to shop local and spend their money in our local retailers, visit our cafes and sample local food and drink, then that's a benefit to them because they're getting that authentic visitor experience because that visitor pound is staying in our local economy."
