Concerns Over Stockton Parking Shortage
People working in Stockton may find it more difficult than usual to find a parking space this week.
People who work in Stockton may find it more difficult than usual to find a parking space this week.
In the run up to the International Riverside Festival, seven council-run car parks are closed, many for over a week.
It means workers with annual parking passes are being forced to use private car parks, wracking up daily bills.
Shelley Smith works in an office in the town centre.
She told TFM she is forced to arrive at work early in an attempt to find a spot.
She said: "The festival is good for Stockton and whilst you appreciate for the economy it's ideal, for entertainment it's great value.
However, if you do work in Stockton for that week car parking plus the road closures do prove to be problematic."
TFM have spoken to Stockton Council about the car park closures.
They said:“The temporary car park closures make it possible to host Stockton International Riverside Festival, an event which attracts thousands of visitors each year and benefits the town’s businesses and traders.
“While we appreciate there may be some disruption to parking arrangements, annual permits are also valid in the nine other long-stay car parks in and around the town centre.”
