Cleveland police want to remind communities that "we are here" over the busy festive period and will support anyone who needs it.

It is part of their winter night-time economy campaign to prevent an increase in crime and anti-social behaviour over Christmas and New Year.

The campaign’s simple message “We are Here” aims to reassure the public that they are here to help them have a safe and enjoyable night out.

You’ll see officers on the streets, in licensed premises and at other businesses like takeaways and taxi ranks providing a reassuring presence.

The simple message also serves as a warning to people intent on causing harm or committing crime – from spiking to sexual assault, drink driving, robbery, harassment or hate crime – that 'We are Here', and they will deal with offenders.

Around our town centres you can see digital adverts featuring response and neighbourhood officers. The adverts contain a QR code so the public can access advice and information on a variety of crimes, as well as guidance on how to report if they are unfortunate enough to become a victim.

Local Policing Chief Superintendent Dave Sutherland said: “The We are Here campaign is a straightforward reminder to our communities that for Cleveland Police this busy period is business as usual; we’re on hand to help, advise and support anyone who may need us, and we’re here to prevent crime and ASB.

“Everyone associated with our night time economy – whether they’re a member of the public or a worker - has the right to enjoy the festive season in safety and we’ll continue to work with businesses and partner agencies to protect them and deal with offenders.”
