Boulby miner John 'Rich' Anderson died of asphyxiation
The 55-year-old died following a 'gas blowout' on Friday at the mine in East Cleveland.
Police confirm a worker who died at Boulby Potash mine on Friday died as a result of asphyxiation.
55-year-old John Anderson, known as Rich to his family and friends, was killed following a gas blowout at the site in East Cleveland.
Cleveland Police officers are continuing to investigate the incident in assocation with the Health and Safety Executive.
Officers will speak to colleagues and witnesses in the coming days to establish the circumstances surrounding John's death.
John’s family today paid tribute to him saying:
“We are a large and very close family and we are each grieving in our own way however we ALL remember him as a loyal and caring husband to Cath, a supportive and understanding father to twins Ricky and Alan, daughter Kirsty, and to youngest son Jon.
“He was a welcoming father in law to Lloyd, Tara, and Vicky, a much loved brother to Theresa, Sue, Alison, David and Ann ( who is recently deceased) a much loved brother in law to Victor, Rose-Mary, Graham, Elaine, Steven, Stuart, Steve and Phil.
“John, known to us all as Rich, was a very hard working colleague and a great friend but above all an amazing and dedicated Grandad to Callum, Caitlin, Olivia, Ewan, Aliyah, Leon, Lucas, Elias, Riley, Tyler and Imogen and was a well-respected uncle and great-uncle.
“His sudden death has left us all utterly devastated. He was a truly great, unassuming man with a blistering work ethic.
“Our Dad was always happiest around his grandchildren and was a very loving and playful grandfather, excellent role model as a parent and without question a fantastic husband to our mother Catherine.
“We would like to express our sincerest thanks and appreciation to everyone who has sent cards, flowers, words of support and messages at this very difficult time.”
