The producers behind the TV show say it is not about exploiting the poor, but showing people who work together.

Benefits Street is on the TV on Monday night, (May 11th).

It has been filmed on Kingston Road on Stockton’s Tilery Estate, the first series was in Birmingham.

Kieran Smith from Love Productions said no-one should be worried: “We’re there to celebrate the community, yes we don’t shy away from the difficult aspects of life and the difficult things people are going through.

“When people watch the series what they’ll see is that it’s a fantastic community of people.”

Filming for the show prompted the Positively Stockton campaign for people to talk about the good aspects of the area.

Stockton North MP Alex Cunningham said: “Benefits Street is about making money for Channel 4 and Love Productions.

“If their first series is anything to go by, it will put our area in a negative light.”
