Officers are investigating after a report of a fire on Lackenby Lane in East Cleveland around 8pm on Tuesday 2nd August.

The fire originated in a farmers field and caused thousands of pounds worth of damage, and closed the road network from the A1053 Greystones roundabout to the Trunk Road (known locally as the ‘Mad Mile’) for around two hours due to lack of visibility.

Police believe that youths may have been responsible for the fire and are investigating a possible arson. They would appeal to anyone who may have children who were out in the area last night who may have come home smelling of smoke, to call them on 101.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Eston Neighbourhood Policing Team on 101, quoting incident number 135803.

Crimestoppers can also be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111, or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
