Arrest in connection with "meat-cleaver" burglary.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary after a couple were burgled in Bishop Auckland in the early hours of yesterday.

The 38-year-old local man was arrested late last night and is currently being interviewed by detectives.

The incident happened at around 12.15am when a man, armed with what is believed to be a meat cleaver, smashed the downstairs window of a property to gain entry.

The suspect tied up the couple before leaving the house with a number of items.
