The North East has the highest number of parents willing to move house just so their children can get into a particular school.

Figures out today claim 46% of mums and dads here are willing to take drastic measures for the right place - the highest figure in the country.

North East mum Lisa Duncan moved to a more expensive area, just so her son could get the best education.

She told TFM, despite the whole family having to make sacrifices, it was worth it....

"Because it was so expensive to move into the area, we had to make a decision as a family that we'd give up on luxuries, no holidays abroad. Yes, we would have a nice house, a nice area and we would have the school of our choice, but all luxuries went to get that."

Figures from Santander Morgages claim state schools are now under increasing pressure to match places within the set criteria - with first choice going to `local’ students.

But for parents who `aren’t local’ the competition is fierce - forcing many to take drastic measures to ensure their children get into the desired school.
