An animal charity has filmed instances of alleged cruelty at a halal slaughterhouse in Thirsk.

They had secret cameras in the abattoir for three days.

The Food Standards Agency say it is taking action after seeing the videos, four people have been suspended.

Animal Aid say the procedures following the halal slaughter was not followed.

They also say they have visited nine other abattoirs that weren’t halal and also found cruelty.

There are now calls for mandatory CCTV cameras that would be independently monitored.
