Airshow Continues As Planned

Published 24th Aug 2015

Following the announcement issued by the Civil Aviation Authority this afternoon, on restrictions and changes in UK civil air displays, the following statement has been issued by Durham Tees Valley Airport:

Everyone connected with the airport and the Air Show is obviously deeply saddened by the weekend’s tragic events at Shoreham and expresses their condolences to the victims’ families and friends.

Incidents of this kind are thankfully very rare and safety is, of course, always our primary objective. The arrangements for the Air Show at Durham Tees Valley next weekend have been prepared in full compliance with the specific requirements set out by the Civil Aviation Authority for all live air displays and all our procedures have been developed with and approved by the CAA. In addition all plans for the Air Show have been prepared in consultation and agreement with the local authorities.

In addition all aircraft operators taking part in live displays at the Show have been required to produce confirmation relating to pilot qualifications, aircraft airworthiness and insurance as required by the CAA.

We will, of course, be observing the new measures announced today by the Civil Aviation Authority, including restrictions on vintage jet aircraft which will mean that, whilst the restrictions are in place, aircraft affected will be undertaking flypasts only rather than any ‘high energy’ aerobatics. In addition we will be working with the CAA on any additional risk assessments they wish to conduct.

As a mark of respect we intend to hold a minute’s silence in memory of the Shoreham victims at the start of next Saturday’s event.
