Overnight closures will be in place on part of the A66 in Middlesbrough from tonight (20th March) to allow carriageway resurfacing works to be carried out safely.

The resurfacing works will be carried out over ten nights.

The westbound carriageway of the A66 will be closed from 9pm to 6am each night between Newport Interchange and the A19.

Affected traffic will be diverted via Newport Roundabout, A1032 Heywood Street/Ayresome Green Lane/Acklam Road, A1130 Levick Crescent/Mandale Road and the A19. The diversion route will be clearly signposted.

A Middlesbrough Council spokesman said: “These essential works are necessary to keep traffic moving on one of the busiest roads in the borough.

“All of the programmed road closures will take place overnight, ensuring any impact on the travelling public will be kept to a minimum.

“We’re grateful to anyone who is affected for their patience and understanding, and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
