More than £1700 raised for seriously injured New Marske girl

A New Marske dad tells TFM he’s overwhelmed by the generosity of the North East after her daughter recovers from a serious accident.

11-year-old Maisie was riding her horse on Monday when he was spooked, threw her from his back and she was trampled upon.

Her dad Adam tells us she’s now in a stable condition and told us about the moment he took the call of every parent’s worst nightmare. He said:

“It was my little girl who was crying and screaming, my partner screaming and crying down the phone at the same time. It was not knowing what was wrong with her, not knowing the extent of her injuries, feeling useless not being able to help.

“I’m there at the hospital every night, not sleeping but just sat watching her. I’m having to be the strong one, making sure she’s fine, reassuring her, to hold her hand… Wishing I could swap places with her to be fair.”

Adam says the support has been overwhelming, giving special mention to Jade and Louise and Thrushwood Farm, all NHS staff and Jo Byrne who has set up a fundraising page to help them out.

It’s raised more than £1700 so far, something Jo told us she didn’t expect:

“The response has been absolutely outstanding. My aim was £2000 but I’m hoping to now get beyond that. It’s going to be a long journey for Maisie.
