Comedian Will Ferrell has become received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Flanked by his family and friends, Will attended the ceremony in sunny Los Angeles where he was immortalised with the 2,547th star on the world-famous pavement.

Will’s Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and Step Brothers co-star John C Reilly was on hand to help induct his friend on the concrete walkway.

"Maybe some day, in 50 years, people will look down on the sidewalk and say the things that we say today about some of these people: 'Who the f*** is this guy?" Reilly joked.

"But I hope not. This man is deserving of all the praise we give him today."

Molly Shannon, who appeared alongside Will on Saturday Night Live, told the assembled crowd about a career back-up plan the two forged together.

She joked: “He said, ‘I don't know, what if acting doesn't work out? What if animation totally takes over and they don't need real human actors?’.

“I said, ‘I don't think that's going to happen,’ and he said, ‘I could just have a simple life, driving a truck or living on a farm and driving that truck on that farm.’ So, he had a backup plan.”

Los Angeles mayor and Will’s Get Hard co-star Kevin Hart were also in attendance.

Since making his breakthrough on Saturday Night Live in the mid-1990s, Will has gone on to become one of the biggest comedy stars of his generation starring in movies including Elf, Anchorman, Old School, Blades of Glory, The Lego Movie and Zoolander.

Will stars as wealthy hedge fund manager James King who has a beautiful wife (Mad Men actress Alison Brie) and privileged life until he is wrongly convicted for fraud.

Faced with a gruelling 10 years behind bars, Will enlists the help of this building’s car washer Darnell (Kevin Hart), who he wrongly believes has served time, to teach him how to survive his sentence.
