Terminally ill Star Wars fan granted dying wish to see the film!
He also gets a call from director J.J. Abrams
A devoted Star Wars fan with terminal cancer has got his wish to see the new movie The Force Awakens before he dies.
Earlier this week, 31-year-old Daniel Fleetwood’s wife, Ashley, started a campaign on social media calling on Disney and Lucasfilm to allow him to see the upcoming movie before its 18th December release.
The Texan, who has been a fervent Star Wars follower since childhood, is suffering from an aggressive form of cancer that has spread to 90% of his lungs and only has months to live.
Ashley’s tweets along with the hashtag #ForceForDaniel soon went viral with celebrities and stars of the movie including Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) and newcomer John Boyega (Finn).
Revealing that Daniel has had his dying wish granted, last night to confirm that director JJ Abrams personally called Daniel before the movie was shown to him at home.
Ashley wrote: “To all our wonderful supporters, friends, family and awesome strangers: Daniels final dream was just granted!!!
(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)0; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_GB/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk')); Among those expressing their delight at the news was Luke Skywalker himself Mark Hamill who said: “I just read this and am elated for Daniel & his family! Thanks to the powers-that-be for making his dream come true.”
Daniel had previously told People Magazine: “If I got to see the movie, I might actually die from happiness.
“Growing up, I would watch the movies over and over and analyse every little detail. I hope I get to see what happens.”
