Comedian Peter Kay has released a statement on Twitter, announcing that with "regret" he will have to cancel his tour.
The funny man had only recently announced he would be going on tour next year, for the first time in eight years, and tickets had quickly been snapped up by eager fans. In fact, demand was so great that the Bolton comedian added extra dates to help. The tour was scheduled to run from April 2018 all the way up to June 2019, so it would have been a big undertaking for the Phoenix Nights star.
He released this statement on Twitter at 12pm on 13th December which said, 'Due to unforeseen family circumstances, I deeply regret that I am having to cancel all of my upcoming work projects. This unfortunately includes my upcoming stand-up tour, Dance for Life shows and any outstanding live work commitments.'
The statement went on to say that customers who have tickets for Peter's Live Arena Tour and Dance for Life will be able to get refunds from their original point of purchase.
His last tour, back in 2010, ranks in the Guinness Book of World Records as the biggest comedy tour of all time, and played to a whopping 1.2 million people. In a poll, he was named as the 46th most influential person in British culture.
The 44-year-old often referred to stand-up comedy as his 'most successful hobby' and something that he missed, so it will no doubt come as a blow to have to cancel his new tour, Have Gags, Will Travel.
We're not sure of the details behind the cancellation, but understand it's a personal matter within his family, so we're thinking of Peter at this no doubt difficult time, and sending him our prayers and best wishes.
