One Direction and Arctic Monkeys dominated The BRIT Awards last night taking home two prestigious honours.

Fresh from kicking off the night with a scintillating rendition of ‘Do I Wanna Know?’, Sheffield’s finest Arctic Monkeys were named Best Group and took home the British Album of the Year honour for ‘AM’.

Also present at the ceremony, One Direction scooped the British Global Success Award and the fan-voted British Video Award for ‘Best Song Ever’.

There was a sensational surprise performance from Beyoncé who lit up The O2 Arena with the her first ever live performance of ‘XO’.

Queen Bey’s fellow Americans, International Male Solo Artist winner Bruno Mars and Katy Perry also wowed with live performances, while Pharrell Williams (wearing his infamous hat) sang ‘Get Lucky’ with the legendary Nile Rodgers.

International Female Solo Artist victor Lorde didn’t disappoint with her stunning Disclosure duet, while dual winners Bastille (British Breakthrough) and Rudimental (British Single) played their two biggest hits ‘Pompeii’ and ‘Waiting All Night’ with Ella Eyre.

Music legend David Bowie scooped British Male Solo Artist with Kate Moss accepting the award on his behalf - bizarrely his speech called on Scotland to not go independent.
