New ‘Alien’ film confirmed by director
The last official Alien movie was released in 1997
A new 'Alien' movie has been confirmed and it will be directed by Neill Blomkamp, the man behind 2013's 'Elysium'.
The director took to Instagram last night (18th February) to drop a huge hint, posting a picture of the infamous character alongside the caption: “So I think this is officially my next film.”
Blomkamp had already let slip earlier in the year that he had been working on an 'Alien' sequel. However there were suggestions that the film had been abandoned, until the Instagram post appeared yesterday.
Sigourney Weaver has recently admitted her interest in reprising her role as Ripley if Blomkamp’s 'Alien' project did go ahead, but it is not officially clear whether she will be involved.
She starred in four 'Alien' movies between 1979 and 1997, returning to the franchise in 2012’s ‘Prometheus’.
Blomkamp’s last film was Matt Damon-starring ‘Elysium’, which followed up his 2009 sci-fi movie 'District 9'.
The pair have also worked together on upcoming movie 'Chappie', with Weaver playing a supporting role.
'Chappie' will hit UK cinemas on 9th March.
