Lorde Beats 5 Seconds of Summer & Justin Bieber To 21 Under 21 Title
She tops the power list despite only being 17!
Lorde has been named the most powerful music act under the age of 21!
American magazine Billboard has published its annual 21 Under 21 list, which recognises the achievements of artists yet to reach the legal drinking age Stateside.
Still aged just 17, Kiwi pop phenomenon Lorde triumphed on the list ahead of Australian pop-punksters 5 Seconds of Summer and the inescapable Justin Bieber.
Explaining why Lorde is worthy of their crown, Billboard cited the global success of ‘Royals’, her upcoming song for Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 plus her influence on the pop sphere.
They wrote: “(Lorde has) consistently demonstrated an influence that extends well beyond music, championing an image free of touch-ups and letting young girls know that they don’t have to dress provocatively to capture the public’s attention.”
The countdown is based on record sales, social networking figures, tickets sales and a series of other factors.
Other acts inside the top 21 include Austin Mahone, Cody Simpson, The Vamps, Fifth Harmony, Cody Simpson and Martin Garrix.
One Direction controversially triumphed in 2013 despite the fact that Liam Payne was older than 21 at the time! The biggest boyband of the planet have now been eliminated from this year’s list due to their ages.
Last year’s number three Miley Cyrus and number 11 Cher Lloyd have also now passed the grand old age of 21.
Justin Bieber won the title in 2012, Miley Cyrus took the crown in 2011 and Taylor Swift triumphed in 2010.
