Published 24th Feb 2014

The nominations for the 19th Jameson Empire Awards have been unveiled this afternoon!

!Voted for entirely by the cinema going public, the awards are an alternative to industry back-patting events like The Oscars throwing up a number of curveballs.

Largely overlooked in the major categories by other awards bashes, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug leads the nominations charge with seven nods including Best Film and Best Supporting Actress for Evangeline Lilly.

The fifth highest grossing film of 2013 The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has picked up five nominations – most notably Best Film, Best Sci-fi and Best Actress for Jennifer Lawrence’s’ portrayal of Katniss Everdeen.

Elsewhere, the critically-lauded 12 Years A Slave has received six nominations, Captain Phillips follows closely behind with five and fresh from dominating The BAFTAs, Gravity is up for four Jameson Empire Awards.

The winners will be announced at a star-studded ceremony in central London on Sunday 30th March. Check out the full winners’ list below.
