Steve Backshall's wife Helen Glover loses one twin in tragic miscarriage
They are 'hopeful' for their unborn baby
Olympic rowing champion Helen Glover and her husband Steve Backshall have revealed they've tragically lost one of their unborn twins after Helen suffered a miscarriage.
Helen revealed the sad news on Twitter, admitting the couple are 'hopeful' for the safe arrival of their other baby later in the year. She wrote, 'We've had the hard news that one baby hasn't made it but we are very excited and hopeful for the remaining baby to arrive this summer xx.'
Former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Steve Backshall then added, 'Many thanks for all your kind messages. We've had the news that one twin has not survived, but are still looking forward to our new addition this summer.'
Many fans and friends of the couple were quick to send messages of support, including Helen's fellow Team GB team mate Rebecca Adlington. She wrote, 'Sending so much love xx 💗'. TV presenter Ben Fogle also wrote, 'We are sending you both lots of love x'. sic
Others were quick to share their own experiences, with one fan writing, 'I was expecting two and sadly lost one. My beautiful healthy daughter was born some months later and has always had twice the personality, cheekiness and loving nature. She was determined to survive and has flourished (she is now 18) and I wish the same for your precious one.💕'
Helen and Steve first met in 2014 and later tied the knot in 2016. The couple married in a stunning ceremony at Piskies Cove in Cornwall.
Steve is a popular naturalist, writer and TV presenter, best known for his Deadly 60 show on the BBC. The 44-year-old has two BAFTA Awards to his name for his shows.
Meanwhile, Helen has been ranked the number one female rower in the world since 2015. She is a two time Olympic champion, triple World champion, quintuple World Cup champion and triple European champion.
