Ever since the devastating final episode of Game of Thrones season 5 aired last month, fans of the show have been coming up with theories of Jon Snow’s possible resurrection at the hands of the Melisandre.
The episode climaxed with the brutal multiple stabbing of the 998th Lord Commander of the Night's Watch at the hands of his own men including his young steward Olly.
However, shortly before the killing, Melisandre (aka The Red Woman) returns to The Wall prompting speculation that she could bring Jon Snow back from the dead with her magical powers.
As George R. R. Martin’s sixth book The Winds of Winter is yet to be released (which will partially form the basis of the new series), fans have been left in the dark about the plot, further fuelling the rumours about Jon’s fate.
Now, during her appearance at Comic-Con, Melisandre actress Carice Van Houten told the assemble audience: “No, he can’t be dead. No!”
Asked about the resurrection theory, she added: “I’ve seen that on the internet; like I’ve seen stuff saying ‘we’ll forgive you if you save him'.”
Revealing that some fans get the lines between the show and reality blurred, she added: “I had so many people on Twitter telling me ‘f* off, b**.
“I’ve never had so many death wishes in my life. It was so interesting to experience that. I mean, I knew it was coming – I thought, I’m not gonna get any more sympathy after this!”
At Wimbledon earlier this month, Jon Snow actor Kit Harrington appeared in the crowd sporting a haircut synonymous with his character – again igniting hope from Game of Thrones fans.
It looks like we’re going to have to wait until April 2016, when the sixth season premieres, to find out whether there’s any slim possibility of Jon coming back. Really, it can’t come soon enough.
