Fifty Shades of Grey banned in Malaysia
The film won't be shown in Malaysia
The hotly anticipated ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ film has been banned in Malaysia, one week before it hits cinemas in the UK.
The racy movie was due to have its official cinema release in the Southeast Asian country on 12th February.
However the launch has been cancelled after the film was denied a certificate by the Malaysian Film Censorship Board.
Chairman of the board, Adbul Halim Abdul Hamid said: “The board made a decision in view of the film containing scenes that are not of natural sexual content.
“The content is more sadistic, featuring scenes of a woman being tied to a bed and whipped.”
UK cinema goers will be able to view the movie however, after the British Board of Film Classification unsurprisingly made it an 18 certificate but passed the work ‘uncut’.
In the US, Fifty Shades has been given an R certification, meaning those under 17 can watch it if accompanied by an adult.
The film, which contains ‘strong sex and nudity’, stars Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as his lover Anastasia Steele.
Fifty Shades of Grey receives it official UK cinema release on 13th February.
