Petrol-fuelled epic Fast & Furious 7 is now officially the third highest grossing movie of all time at the global box office.

Starring Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker in his final role, according to figures released by Box Office Mojo the film has now made $1.52billion (£967million) since its release in April.

Fast & Furious 7 knocked 2012’s The Avengers into fourth spot, which has a box office tally of $1.518billion (£966million). This year’s sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron is close behind with $1.368billion (£870million).

Although it’s a rip-roaring success, Fast & Furious 7 has a long way to go to catch the two biggest of movies of all time both directed by the legendary James Cameron.

2009’s Avatar is at the summit with a staggering $2.788billion (£1.774billion) and 1997’s Titanic made a mightily impressive $2.186billion (£1391billion).

Only released a few weeks ago, Jurassic World has become the 22nd movie in history to make a billion dollars having made $1.011billion.

If you factored in inflation to the figures, 1939’s Gone with the Wind would be the biggest movie of all time with an estimated tally of $3.44billion (£2.189billion).
