Chris Hemsworth has been announced as the receptionist in the upcoming Ghostbusters movie.

Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon are starring as the famous ghost-hunting foursome.

However in keeping with gender role reversals, Hemsworth will now play the receptionist for the Ghostbusters, taking over the role originally played by Annie Potts.

Director Paul Feig confirmed the announcement via Twitter earlier today (11th June):

According to Variety, the ‘Thor’ star was approached about a Ghostbusters role very early in the process but turned it down because it was too small.

However since then, Feig and co-writer Katie Dippold have increased the size of the part.

Paul Feig’s all-female Ghostbusters will follow up the success of his current comedy movie ‘Spy’ which made £57m in just one week at the international box office.

This will be the start of a new Ghostbusters cinematic universe which is also slated to contain a new male spin-off involving Channing Tatum.

Chris Hemsworth will next be on the big screen in this summer’s comedy remake ‘Vacation’ and in Oscar tipped movie ‘In The Heart Of The Sea’.
