Coronation Street actress Bhavna Limbachia has revealed to fans she's been hospitalised with severe Gastroenteritis.

Bhavna, who plays the role of Rana Nazir on the cobbles, took to her Instagram Story to thank NHS staff who have helped her during her hospital stay. She wrote, 'We’re very lucky to have the NHS! Thank you to the doctors and nurses at Tameside Hospital for looking after me.'

She then added, 'A case of gastroenteritis and overbuild of acid in the gut but I’m on the mend. Taking a break from social media for a few days while I recover. Thank you for all the continued support and kind messages. On the plus side…I haven’t had to attempt to drive in the snow!' sic

According to the NHS, Gastroenteritis is a 'very common condition that causes diarrhoea and vomiting. It's usually caused by a bacterial or viral tummy bug.'

Despite it being more common with children, adult cases are usually caused by bacterial food poisoning or norovirus.

It was just last week that Bhavna revealed she is suffering from an under active thyroid, an incurable condition which is also known as Hypothyroidism.

Admitting the condition leaves her exhausted almost every day, the actress told the Mirror Online, "Around five years ago I noticed I was waking up feeling exhausted every day, as if I'd just run a marathon, despite having had eight or nine hours of sleep a night.

“Initially I thought it was an age thing. But when I explained my symptoms to my doctor, I was sent for blood tests. They said there was no cure and I would need medication for ever. That did scare me."

As her character's on-screen drama heats up, the 33-year-old appeared on the This Morning sofa with her co-star Faye Brookes last week.

Talking about her character's lesbian romance with Kate Connor, Bhvana revealed she wasn't sure how her own mother was going to react when her character revealed she was gay, due to the fact she's from an Indian background.

Speaking to Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, Bhvana said, "I sat her down and told her I was kissing a girl on screen. She didn’t quite understand, so I told her in Gujarati and she said if you’re going to help people, then you’ve got my full support."
