Police name driver who died after crash in Queen of the South car park

The incident happened following Saturday's Scottish Cup tie against Dundee United

A man who died after his car crashed into three pedestrians and two other vehicles in the car park outside Queen of the South Football stadium has been named.

76-year-old James Maxwell Johnstone lost his life in the incident on Lochfield Road in Dumfries following Saturday's Scottish Cup tie against Dundee United.

He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The pedestrians, a 46-year-old man and two 12-year-old boys - were treated in hospital after the collision happened around 5.50pm.

Police Sergeant Wayne Carnochan of the Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts remain with Mr Johnstone's family and friends at this difficult time.

“I would like to thank all members of the public for their assistance at the incident.”
