A man has been jailed for raping and sexually assaulting an underage girl in Dundee.

Craig Brett abused the child, who was no younger than 9, between 2014 and 2021

51-year-old Brett will serve 11 years and eight months behind bars after sentencing at Edinburgh High Court.

He has also been put on the Sex Offenders Register and was given a life-time non-harassment order.

Detective Constable Tanya Garland, of Police Scotland’s Child Protection Investigation Unit, said: “I would like to commend the victim for her courage and bravery in coming forward.

“Crimes like these will not be tolerated and Police Scotland takes all reports of this nature extremely seriously and they are fully investigated by specialist officers.

“I would encourage anyone who wishes to report a crime of a sexual and abusive nature to get in touch, no matter the length of time that has passed.
