A 32-year-old man has pleaded guilty at the High Court in Edinburgh to the murder of a 90-year-old man.

On Tuesday, 6 December, 2022 police were alerted to the death of William Yule in Hillside Road, Forfar.

Officers attended and quickly arrested Alan Graham Massie a short distance from the home of Dr Yule

The investigation established that Massie had entered the home of Dr Yule on the 6 December and subjected him to a sustained attack.

He was left with severe injuries and died at the scene.

Dr Yule was a retired GP and very well known in the area.

The nature of his death shocked the whole community.

Detective Inspector Craig Ross from the Major Investigations Team said: “The pain someone feels when losing a loved one in such circumstances is unimaginable.

"I hope today’s outcome can bring some degree of closure to the family and friends of Dr Yule.

"I would also like to thank the local community for their support and co-operation throughout the investigation process.

"No-one’s life should be cut short and it’s fitting that the person responsible for Dr Yule’s death is being held to account for his actions.”
