Police are investigating after a Livingston supporters bus came under attack from fans of Forfar Athletic following the League Cup match between the two sides on Saturday.

Both clubs have condemned the incident - which left some people on board quite distressed.

Livingston won the match at Station Park, Forfar, Angus 2-0.

Group of youths said to be involved in the attack

In a statement on X, the West Lothian club said: "We’re aware of an incident that took place after yesterday’s game with Forfar where a coach departing the ground, taking our fans home, was attacked by a group of youths.

"Our safety team have already had contact with counterparts at Forfar Athletic FC as well as Police Scotland and are hopeful of identifying those involved.

"We were thankful to hear no-one was directly hurt from the attack but send our very best wishes to those who were shaken up from the experience".

Their hosts, Forfar Athletic, have also released a statement on X, saying: "All at Forfar Athletic are extremely disappointed and angered by the incident which took place shortly after Saturdays game with Livingston.

"Their supporters bus was attacked and damaged and some supporters quite distressed following this attack.

"Police were called immediately on the club being informed of the incident.

"Forfar Athletic endeavour to encourage a community and family atmosphere at all games, however, despite the incident occurring away from the ground it still impacts on the town and the club.

"The culprits have been identified on camera and this has been passed on to Police Scotland. If any of them are found to be season ticket holders serious action will be taken by the club.

"Last season we had a few similar incidents and again this behaviour will not be tolerated.

"This leads to more expense to the club in the deployment of more stewards and requests for a police presence to prevent this happening inside or outside of the ground.

"The club has been in contact with Livingston to convey our concerns and disappointment over this incident."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.10pm on Saturday, 13 July, 2024, officers received a report of damage to a bus on Carseview Road, Forfar.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
