Glenrothes school locked down over threat of man "with weapon"

Primary and nursery aged children were told to stay indoors

A man has been arrested in connection with the possession of a weapon in Glenrothes this morning.

Armed officers rushed to Glendevon Road and urged local primary school, Pitteuchar East Primary, to lock down.

Headteacher Jennifer Knussen said: "There was a police incident in nearby streets this morning.

“We were asked by police to get all children into school and nursery as quickly as possible which we did.

“We have now been advised that the incident is over and please be assured that children are safe and well."

A 24 year old man is now in police custody.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We are aware an incident in Glendevon Road in Glenrothes this morning will have been concerning for members of the public.

“A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the possession of an offensive weapon

“Due to the nature of the incident, armed officers were in attendance.

“There was no threat to the wider public.”
